Deal With a First Date

Step1
Tell someone who you are going with and where you are going. Leave a note at home. Text your close friend, mom or sibling. You can take this a step further by asking them to contact you at some point during the date as a safety precaution.
Step2
Bring your fully-charged cellphone and enough money for your meal and a cab. What's more, carry a small bag only with the essentials.
Step3
Go somewhere public and accessible. Even better, a place with bright lights and lots of people. Safety first before romantic ambiance.
Step4
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. It's not a job interview or a girls' night-out.
Step5
Be on time. That way, you see if your date is punctual as well.
Step6
Acknowledge your nervousness and laugh about it. Light banter is always welcome during first dates.
Step7
Think of interesting topics to talk about. Don't delve into the controversial trio - religion, sports and politics. At a loss what to discuss? Start off with the menu.
Step8
Ask questions, but nothing too personal. Something like, "do you eat here often?" would be good. "Have you been on a date here before?" is a no-no.
Step9
Do not assume that your date will pay. That's why you need to have enough money with you. Some dates have been known to end on a sour note when it came to bill paying time.
Step10
Lastly, say thank you. A simple and sincere thank you can encompass a lot of things, whether it's for a good time, a good meal or a good laugh.
